As I write, today is day 40 of isolation for us and day 34 (nearly week 5/12) of being shielded. Since I last wrote about quarantine on March the 30th, we have tried to keep our spirits up by keeping busy. In general, we are not really accustomed to the word ‘bored’ at home as we all have a wealth of things we love to do. Home education is something we are constantly engaged in anyway. This abundance of available activities has now turned into a real asset by keeping us focused and our mental health in a positive state.
I would be lying if I tried to say that we weren’t yearning for a trip out to any number of local beaches, to have a drive to the forest or to go to a restaurant, but those are pretty small problems to have considering the nature of many other people’s experiences right now.
Over 20,000 people having died from this so far in the UK is extremely sad (govt figures – it’s likely to be more). My thoughts go out to their families. We feel very thankful that thus far we have evaded any further health issues and that people are around to help us to stay isolated.
Since I wrote last, my good friend Brian has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting for us. He’s been to various shops multiple times after work (often to get things not available on a previous trip), we’ve had groceries delivered from the local shop by the local co-ordinator, I’ve had my bloods done at home, we’ve ordered food from the pub and my friend Viv went and picked up my prescription for this month. Our neighbours were also nice enough to buy us some ingredients to make cakes.
We’ve been extremely grateful for every ounce of help.
As the sun has started to get higher in the sky, we have also been able to get a bit of time outside and some much needed Vitamin D in the garden.
My daugher has been making her way through a Sherlock Holmes book (a huge book compilation of 9 classic Sherlock tales), we have built laser cut wooden lock boxes (which my son enjoyed), built and painted laser cut wooden planes, made and eaten cakes, did some Tesla Coil experiments with different breakouts (ion windmill etc); I repaired some air guns (to say thank you for all the shopping help), watched more live tours of Chester Zoo, learned how to pick locks and we finally had a chance to fly our bright red dragon kite.
I also managed to find the time to finish a music track and get it uploaded to a couple of music accounts (here). My daughter kindly created the artwork for the release. We are looking forward to producing a bit more music very soon, which will also hopefully feature my daughter’s voice.
For the next few weeks I will be mostly concerned with finishing a few of the courses that I’m currently enroled on and completing more electronics projects.
