My passion for the law started many years ago with two issues. Firstly a dispute over my mortgage. A technicality in the contract meant I had to fight the company for months to find a remedy. Something I did manage eventually as I argued my way up to the Chief Executive of the company. The second issue was a dispute over finance for a car. Something else I managed to resolve by forensically examining my contract, arguing my case and having it voided.
It occurred to me that this might be something I could be good at were I to study it and take it forward. Many years later, while I don’t officially work in law yet, it still remains a fundamental part of me and something I’m keenly passionate about.
I’ve used the law to successfully fight parking and speeding tickets, won discrimination complaints, secured compensation through financial ombudsman cases, worked with the CAB and the North Wales Police as an advisor, been a core stakeholder on a local equality board and used my knowledge of equality and human rights law through an organisation I founded, to protect individuals and effect change all around the world.
I’ve also been involved in supporting schedule 1 offenders to re-integrate back into society just after their release from prison and while still on licence.
I have delivered equality and hate crime training and supported local government organisations and the police in policy, best practice and equality impact assessments.
I have studied law courses through the Open University and Harvard University, as well as human rights and humanitarian courses from organisations like Amnesty International.
I have studied the legal systems in England and Wales, Scotland and the United States. I am currently also studying for a qualifying paralegal qualification, however simply from my experience I have previously held a licence to practice as a paralegal. I love a lively debate and I’m also involved in local politics on an executive committee.
I intend to keep building on my experience and ability.
